By Roisin O'Dwyer

In these pictures, subject becomes a discussion about shifting contexts and emphases; the didactic nature of pictures; the fascination of simulations and real things; the effects of art history on how a picture can look, and the ability it has to be a language unto itself.

Each of the pictures is inevitably a part of a reference, altered by its context to form a new whole. They are derivative of a selection of previously conceived images and personal styles. They attempt to show how manipulative a library of influences can be. The use of models and still life compositions providing means of exploring the concerns, the appearances, the conventions and the uses of pictures.
