Gertrude is delighted to announce its participation in the significant visual arts initiative Copyright Agency Partnerships (CAP) — an annual collaboration between Copyright Agency and Australian institutions to commission and present new work.
From 2025 to 2028, the Copyright Agency will partner with UNSW Galleries, Sydney (2025/2026), Edith Cowan University Art Gallery, Boorloo Perth (2026/2027) and Gertrude, Naarm Melbourne (2027/2028).
The series supports the creation and presentation of a significant project and will be a major opportunity for mid-career and established visual artists to work closely with Gertrude to develop and present a new commission.
Gertrude has watched as the work of artists has come to fruition through the delivery of major commissions under this initiative — James Nguyen's Open Glossary at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art; James Barths' The Clumped Spirit at the Institute of Modern Art; Alana Hunt's A Deceptively Simple Need at Perth Institute for Contemporary Arts; and TextaQueen's Bollywouldn't at 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art — and applauds the initiative. We look forward to the next iteration, Copyright Agency in partnership with UNSW Galleries, which is currently open for applications and presents a significant opportunity for visual artists to present a commission outcome at UNSW Galleries in late 2026.
Applications for the CAP | UNSW Galleries 2025-26 opportunity are currently open. Apply before 1pm AEST, 18 August 2025.
As a Copyright Agency Partner, Gertrude will receive a grant of $80,000 from the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund to commission new work. One visual artist or collective will be selected from a competitive application process to develop and present the major new commission at Gertrude.
